The 100th Giro d'Italia is set to be a spectacular one.. Born in 1909 and organised by the Newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giro has run every year except for the few years during the great World Wars. Starting on the island of Sardinia in early May, the route heads north towards Bergamo before we pick it up in Bormio at the foot of the epic PASSO STELVIO! With minimal transfers for the riders and touching as as many provinces in Italy as possible, we conquer the 2017 Giro climbs Passo Mortirolo, Stevio, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena and Monte Grappa. We then head to MILAN to watch the deciding Individual Time Trial (with some time to sneak in some shopping too!)
17th May: Tour Start – Welcome to Treviso!! The home of Pinarello
Today we kick off our tour with a visit to the Official Pinarello Store, where the Pinarello company began. Here we shall be welcomed by Carla Pinarello (daughter of founder Giovanni Pinarello) where you can enjoy some time shopping and enjoying the history that sits within the four walls of the ‘bottega’. Today we shall assign every guest with the Pinarello bike and perform their Bike Fit. We shall then have a light lunch with some Prosecco tasting before heading off on a cruisy ride to Montello and Asolo.
18th May: The Prosecco Vineyards and Magical Monfumo
Today’s ride will be a gentle one with a few small climbs as we intertwine the spectacular protected region of the Prosecco Vineyards. We shall ride the ‘Strada del Prosecco’ (the road of Prosecco) and visit family run vineyards.
19th May: Transfer to Ponte di Legno
This morning we shall depart and transfer to the Province of Trentino towards the town of Cles in the Val di Non (Non Valley). The highlight of today is the the Mortirolo Pass, along the same route as the pro’s in this years’ Giro – though the beauty is that we have the climb to ourselves.
The group can choose to ride either:
20th May: Bormio – the cyclist’s paradise!
Now that the legs are in action, you can enjoy Bormio and its surrounds, the group can choose to either cruise the valley or tackle some of the more famous climbs in the area.
21st May: Rest Day or Ride
Today is an assigned rest day for you to enjoy the natural thermals this area!
Our staff will still be available if anyone wishes to ride any of the tours offered above or visit other towns in the area.
22nd May: Bormio > Passo Stelvio > Prato all Stelvio
Today we tackle Passo Stelvio from the Bormio side as do the pro’s. From here, guests may either check-in to our hotel or proceed to challenge Passo Umbrail in the same direction as the pro’s do.
23rd May: Prato allo Stelvio > Passo allo Stelvio (GIRO STAGE 16)
This morning we shall tackle Passo Stelvio from the more famous side, the gorgeous one with swooping hair-pin bends and overhanging rock faces and glaciers. We shall then view the Peloton pass by before descending back down the mountain. This afternoon, we shall transfer to the Fassa Valley ready for another two stages! Our hotel is located on the finish line at the tomorrow’s stage finish.
24th May: The heart of the Dolomites (GIRO STAGE 17)
Today’s stage will be in town at approximately 5pm in Canazei, hence the group can collectively decide today’s ride, no matter which way you go, you won’t be disappointed! We shall then view the sprint finish into town on our hotel doorstep!
25th May: The Dolomites Fever Continues (GIRO STAGE 18)
Just down the valley is today’s start which will be at approximately 12pm. The group can collectively choose to mix the day up as they please:
26th May: Ciao Dolomiti!!
Today we say goodbye to the Fassa and Fiemme valleys as we descend the valley to Predazzo and climb Passo Rolle, from here we shall descend past the VIP Ski Town of San Martino di Castrozza, Fiera di Primiero and rest our legs in the Dolomiti Bellunesi.
27th May: Monte Grappa! (GIRO STAGE 20)
Today we shall ride the along the same route as the pro’s do from Feltre, where we shall climb the Monte Grappa, one more the famous and monumental mountains in Northern Italy for both WWI and WWII. The group can collectively decide one of the following options:
Tonight, we shall transfer towards Milano in preparation to view tomorrows ITT and the Final Stage of the Giro d’Italia!
28th May: Individual Time Trial Milano (GIRO STAGE 21)
The 100th Giro comes to an end in the fashion capital of the world – MILAN! Today we shall enjoy viewing the teams as they prepare and warm-up for today’s final and epic stage. Depending on the GC, this stage could still decide the MAGLIA ROSA!!
29th May: ARRIVERDECI ITALIA!
Today we sadly wish you all goodbye as the Giro comes to an end.
Your transfer to Milan Malpensa Airport is included.
