01.26.09 The San Luis Fairy Tale

Sometimes in the bicycle world special events, and special people, remind us of the passion needed to ride for so many hours.

The main role of this fairy tale is played by the argentinian Alfredo Lucero (28), who won the Tour of San Luis. Lucero is not a professional biker, but a farmer with a deep love for the cyclism, who rode with the national colours on the uniform as he is not part of any team.

“Yes, I am a farmer; that’s my job. The bike is my love, my passion. In the morning I wake up very early and go to the fields with my dad; we breed animals, mostly horses. But we are not rich at all, we hardly earn enough to eat every day. Then in the afternoon I have some spare time to go for a bike training” Lucero said.

Not having a team, Lucero had to buy everything by himself, thus he won the Tour of San Luis with a second hand aluminium Blu Pinarello Paris (built Ultegra) that he bought 8 years ago.

Fausto Pinarello really appreciates the young Lucero and his commitment: “The legs of this guy are far better than the bike! But even the bicycle must be good to resist for so long. I haven’t met Lucero and I didn’t know anything about his life, but now I’m going to give him a new bike as a gift”.

During the awarding the argentinian biker has been given a brand new red, black and white Prince whilst offering his old Paris to the Museum of cyclism, which will be opened soon.
